Last summer I bought a touring kayak (plastic) and I also received very positive comments from NG prior to my purchase. I'm still grateful for your advise, because I tried what I thought I needed and what you suggested. You won ) Being a sailor from way back I now have another question: Does a plastic kayak require a wax treatment? If so, what kind would be advisable or is it the same stuff as with fiberglass? Does the bottom need any special treatment? I have been kayaking now for week and it feels great to be back on the water again (just outside my front door)

Check your manufacturers web site or literature that came with the boat.

But generally, they do not need waxing. It couldn't hurt though. Nicer looking, maybe a little less resistence and more efficient paddling, and something to block UV rays will help keep the color from fading over the

Wim, If it's a Polyethylene material, wax won't stick to it anyway. Want a test? Write on it with a felt marker, it will be illegible very quickly if it is unsuitable for wax. If the marker stays legible (no immediate beading) wax away.... Either way, plastic boats these days have UV inhibitors built into the material already. You will get many,many years from a plastic boat. Matt
