rafting in Maine's Dead River

I know the writing in December about the whitewater rafting in the Dead River in May is like to talk about Ski in August, but still, the spring will come eventually and we can plan.

Dead River Map

The map and the information you’ll need to plan your class III to V of white water rafting at the dead river in main can be found on the official site on
www.raftmaine.com

The Dead River, which flows from Flagstaff Lake, offers the longest continuous stretch of Class III to V whitewater in the East. The sixteen-mile trip begins below Grand Falls, and runs through rapids appropriately named the Minefield, Humpty Dumpty, Elephant Rock Rapids, Mile Long Rapids and culminating at the famous Big Poplar Falls and the confluence with the Kennebec River in The Forks. The Dead River releases high water only ten times a season, six of which are in the spring, May 5, 12, and 27 and June 2, 9 and 17.

The post is inspired by the article

The funny scene described by Swank reminded my of the difference between the men and the women regarding whitewater rafting.

the fearless husband and the uptight preening wife gradually switch roles as they go white water rafting

women and men in whitewater rafting

I know many men that like whitewater rafting and only few women. If the women join in to the adventure it is usually with the men.

Maybe it is the same for all extreme sports but a joined whitewater rafting with the women is a lot of fun and the women that take to it are usually special and dynamic, open for adventure and not less capable then the men.

Boating Accidents

Blogging twice on the same day… Hope I’ll keep this pace :-)

Anyway, I was just reading a somewhat old post about a boating accident on the InjuryBoard and I could not stop thinking to myself - are the rules of the motor boats too permissive, or is there no enforcement what so ever?
A man’s life were claimed in this accident, and if you just have a quick glance on the sheer amount of injuries seen on the InjuryBoard you will just get scared…

East River Waterfront Park

Queens East River waterfront has recently made quite a progress and is longer what it used to be. Pollution level was radically dropped over the last several years and there are plans to further improve it.
People who bought houses on the river bank several years a go are lucky bastard Social economic situation around the area was also improved to say the least.

And for some time now a great effort is put in place to improve the park and its facilities, including kayaking on the area.

the Long Island City Community Boathouse already offers free weekly kayaking on the East River from Hallets Cove, just south of the Astoria Houses. But boathouse volunteers must presently lug their equipment from a storage room nearly a mile and a half away.

Though I wasn’t there yet, I think it’s sure worth a visit for anyone around NYC.
