Two piece kayak vs one piece(roto-moulded) kayak?
Which is a better construction? I was told two piece kayaks will leak at the seams after a couple of years? Anyone know more about this. Or any other info would be great. I have an inflatable kayak, and I want to get a hard shell kayak. I am looking at the Pelican kayaks. Mostly because of cost, they are more affordable for me.
Thanks
Paul

Rotomolds are almost industructable. The two peice plastic ones are not molded but thermoformed sheets of PVC then joined together. I have a Current Designs Kestrel TCS (Two peice) and have never had a problem. What I love about them (2 piece) is they have the look of a more evpensive Fiberglass kayak as well as the stiffness without the cost. Two peice are not as indistructable as a roto boat but they will last Jules

I saw Pelican's top line offering and was totally impressed. The 'Elie Strait 140XE" Great lines, Thermoform not Rotomould, a rudder with a fluid steering system, day hatch with dry bag plus dual covered storage hatches, paddle holder and drink holder and the best deluxe seat of any craft at any price. They really put a lot of thought into this baby. Didn't have time for a test drive but, the sales person who had many boats to recommend said they are just great. Price? About a grand brand new. http://www.eliesport.com/products/day-touring-kayaks/ strait-140-xe.html

Hello Sound Chaser
Where did you see the Pelican elite series kayaks. I would like to check them out. I was looking at the Sound model. Where in the Toronto area did you see them?
Thanks

Frontenac Outfitters: http://www.frontenac-outfitters.com/kayaks/ one_boat.cfm?ID=693

They list for $1,200. and sell for $1,095. Right now you can get them for $899. brand new! ...the catch is you have to buy two. I had an ad on Craig's list and Kijiji looking for someone to go in with me-- no takers, so I bought a used Current Designs.

Wish I had known you earlier. I was almost willing to pay the full price because I thought it was still a better deal than the more expensive models. But, went with my kevlar/fiberglass CD as it was a high end model selling for $1,700. (about a grand less, used good condition)
