Just wondering if anyone can tell me if it's possible to reach the Barron R. Canyon from Stratton Lk. and return in a day trip if we were camping on Stratton near High Falls and just had to make the portages with just our canoe?
Thanks.

I am a novice canoe tripper, and I made the journey in a few days rather than one.
Kevin Callan in his book 'Brook Trout and Blackflies' suggests doing it as a day trip by setting base camp in St. Andrews Lake, which is one portage away from Stratton, but to me that would be a lot of portaging in one day. There is no direct portage from Stratton to High Falls Lake, you must go through St. Andrews Lake.
If you were to go from Stratton, it would be 50m portage to St. Andrews

Another option would be to camp on Stratton, do your thing, and then do the canyon starting from the access from the Brigham Lake parking - I just discovered this on our trip. It would be a fairly easy day trip with a second car parked at Squirrel Rapids.
