Have you paddled the Western part of the French River? If so, can you tell me: 1. If there's any chance that the Wanapitei River from The Forks south to Thompson Bay would not be navigable? 2. Is the route from Thompson Bay past Little Pig Island, around the top of Pig Island via Eagle's Nest Bay and down southwest back into the Western Channel always navigable or is there a risk of a long carry where it narrows? 3. When folks recommend the Voyageur Channel are they including the 'Old Voyageur Channel' or is it too dry? 4. Is the Pickerel River along the south shore of Fourteen Mile Island, down Little Canoe Channel and out to Cantin Lake a nice paddling route? 5. Is there any chance of not having enough water to paddle through Little Canoe Channel? 6. Are there (m)any places to camp along the section of the Pickerel from Fourteen Mile Island past flowerpot Island and out to Cantin Lake? 7. Do you have any particular compliments or complaints about the ‘resorts' at the town of French River or at Hartley Bay?

Thanks! and any other tips would be much appreciated.

Yes, it is. It is very shallow in places, and a few lift-overs are needed.

We paddled it. In places, there was heavy vegetaion, but we got through.

Don't knwo the Pickerel. No problem at Hartley Bay. Staff will park your car in a huge lot for a fee.

The western outlets are all good & very interesting. We came back up the eastern outlet, not the main. Besides Toni Hertling's 'The Stck Wavers', Kevin Callan's books 'Up the Creek' and 'Further Up the Creek' are very good.
