I'm currently in the market for a new kayak. I've played around extensively in the waves with a friend's kayak (she has an Islander Hula). But I need something a little more versitile, something that can play in the waves as well as maybe some river cruising (camping/day excursions) and possibly ocean snorkling/diving. I'm currently looking at the following and was hoping I could get some opinions:

Dagger: Frolic

Cobra: Fish n' Dive (may be too wide for playing in the surf), Explorer, Navigator, Play

Islander: Reggae

When I talk to one dealer they, of course, tell me all the bad things about the other manufacturers. Any suggestions? Any truths? Thanks.

You might be trying for too many jobs for one design...surf kayaks don't cruise and dive kayaks definitely don't surf...I would get a nice large cruiser/fisher like the Cobra Fish N Dive or the Ocean Kayaks Scupper Pro or Scupper Classic, and also a small surf yak like the Frolic or the Ocean Yakboard...a little more expensive, but you could do whatever you wanted without compromise or danger...
