Recommended clothing for whitewater kayaking

In the second week of June I am going to be taking a one week beginner whitewater kayak course with Wilderness Tours. I don't want to be cold and uncomfortable while on this course, so I was wondering what clothing would people recommend?

I have already been to Trailhead and while there got three different opinions from three different salespeople (each had valid points). I really don't think I will be the type of person who is out from the very beginning of the season to the bitter end; I'm more likely to be out only when it's nice. So, given that, and the fact that I need something for the second week in June, what should I wear?

Sorry I won't be able to help you with the clothing angle, but I do have a follow-up request for you. I'm considering taking a similar course in July (hmmm, is that a background chorus of 'wuss, wuss, wuss...' I'm hearing?). Once you manage to regain the feeling in your hands, I'd appreciate it if you could let us know your impressions of the course, facilities, etc.
