Hi Everyone

I am planning to paddle the Peace River and Slave River in Northern Canada. I got in my possesion some Marine Charts and some documentation from Fort Vermillion, Alberta to Fort Resolution, NWT. I am just wondering if someone has some information about Peace River from Fort St John, BC to Fort Vermillion? Is there any rapids? Classification of rapids? GPS waypoints? etc..

Thanx

You will find the Peace River to be a tamed river due to the scourge of cheap hydroelectricity.Class I or II, big water fluctuations but still worth paddling.

I paddled up the Peace in 2003 from Peace Point. The only major rapids/barrier on the entire Peace are the vermillion chutes near fort vermillion. You can either go over them (paddle wheels use to) or portage around them. I would think about the portage option.

Basically its a flat water river with endless camping spots. Stay away from old/out of season indian fishing sites (creek mouths) as they are basically bear bait.

Bring spinners if you plan on fishing. Dusk is your best bet to catch fish (golden eye) without any bait.
