Summer will be here soon enough...(though skiing is fantastic these days!!)
I'm looking for information regarding children's summer canoe camps. I'd like a relatively structured course with emphasis on fun, paddling fundamentals, safety, with enough 'on water' time to help build up their strength and endurance.
I am hoping the kids can use this daycamp experience as a stepping stone for a planned canoeing/camping trek later in the summer.
Any recommendations on canoeing camps in the Ottawa area?
Ages are 9&10
Thanks! grins,

In past years, there has been a canoeing day camp program called 'Camp Kanawa' which is based out of the Ron Johnstone Paddling Centre in Merrickville. I don't have kids and don't know much about it, but I've heard it's a pretty good program. I don't see any dates posted for this year yet, but it usually runs a couple of times during the summer. If you contact CRCA, they could probably tell you more. See this link for more info.

My kids went to the Rideau Canoe Club's day camp a couple of times. You can pick the weeks you want, and they had a lot of fun. They had the same campleader for several years (Amanda) and she was quite good.
I teach children and families, but I thought it was good for my own kids to learn from some other folks, and have fun with other kids.

This might be a little far away, but 1000 island Kayak Co. has a wonderful program held out of Brockville!
