Ottawa are childrens summer camp

Summer will be here soon enough...(though skiing is fantastic these days!!)

I'm looking for information regarding children's summer canoe camps. I'd like a relatively structured course with emphasis on fun, paddling fundamentals, safety, with enough 'on water' time to help build up their strength and endurance.

I am hoping the kids can use this daycamp experience as a stepping stone for a planned canoeing/camping trek later in the summer.

Any recommendations on canoeing camps in the Ottawa area?

In past years, there has been a canoeing day camp program called 'Camp Kanawa' which is based out of the Ron Johnstone Paddling Centre in Merrickville. I don't have kids and don't know much about it, but I've heard it's a pretty good program. I don't see any dates posted for this year yet, but it usually runs a couple of times during the summer. My kids went to the Rideau Canoe Club's day camp a couple of times. You can pick the weeks you want, and they had a lot of fun. They had the same campleader for several years (Amanda) and she was quite good.

I teach children and families, but I thought it was good for my own kids to learn from some other folks, and have fun with other kids.
