Hi, both your choices are good, I have a Penobscot 16 which is great for flatwater, slowing moving rivers, lakes etc., I do not whitewater, but I have been told by various people who do that the Penobscot works well in moderate whitewater. It can also be used for tripping, with comfort.
My 2 cents., hope it helps, Blue Hole canoes have been and still are great whitewater canoes, I do not know about flatwater paddling in them.
Never be afraid to try something new.
