Does anyone know if there are PFD's for newborn kids. We are expecting a child in May and we don't want to stop paddling!! Of course we will save the whitewater for a few more years but caneoing we will be doing. We have seen a few out there for kids who weigh 20 lbs or more but the entire summer will be gone gone before the kid will weigh that much.
Any help would be appreciated.

Well, that is the minimum size. I do not know what Transport Canada recommends.
We used them when our kids were little, but I do not know if that was legal or even the best thing we could do. We were also very careful.
Note that they are not all the same. Some have much longer front panels than others. This makes it hard (or even impossible) for the kid to bend at the waist. That may not seem like much when a baby is in arms all the time, but it will be very soon. Hard to paddle when the little one can't even sit in the bottom if the canoe because the PFD is too long. The results of *that* will scare away any and all wildlife. And, you can't paddle with your fingers in your ears.
