I need to build a shed to store six canoes. Does anyone out there know of a good design. I would like to keep it simple. I was thinking of a structure that is open on all four sides to cut down on costs but am open to all suggestions. Security in't an issue.
I am also looking for ideas on how to build the racks in the shed.
Any pointers are welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Ned

If I was building a shelter for six canoes, I would be tempted to build a rack on a trailer frame and drape a tarp over the whole thing. That way I would have the trailer to transport them as well as the shelter. FWIW, Norm

I built a mini barn ( 24' * 10' * 12' high in the centre) a few years ago. it has a barn style roof and I am able to store four canoes above 8'. It would not be difficult to add 2 more on the upper part of the walls. this allows me to work underneth all of the boats. this also provides sufficient room for walking aorund the canoes if I am working on them.
I have pulleys to hoist each canoe up to the respective height. Splayed walls(due to the open ceiling, long span, and 400 lbs. +/- plus the roof weight) in the centre of the building are the only structural issue I have had to contend with, and this has been resolved by linking the tops of the walls with a chain and a turnbuckle to draw them in.
