Hi
I am just over 40 with quite a bad lower back. I love the notion of Kayaking, and would love to get into the sport, but I am wondering how much joy it would bring me taking into account my back...? I would like to know if it a good Idea to start with this, or would I be setting myself up for disappointment?
Thanks

Nellie - I used to have back problems. Kayaking actually helped my back. You sit up straight and the rotation with your arms builds muscles.

Best thing to do is talk to your Doc of course. You can always rent one for a weekend and see how it feels and go from there.

I find that kayaking has helped strengthen my back. The key though is insuring you have a good fitting kayak and seat with proper back support. I've experienced some time in "cheap seated" kayaks and that only results in worse back issues...

The Key is to take it slow, and take breaks when paddling A good backband will support your lower back and good Kayaking posture will also help. White cell is right most rec/begininner type boats dont have a backband ,however they can be installed. Try lots of boats.
