I am new to kayaking and am overwhelmed by the amount of kayaks out there to choose from. Please help me figure out what I need. I will be kayaking on the lake, and it needs to be pretty light because I will have to carry it a ways. Any suggestions as to what I should be looking at?

Several factors to consider,First is price. Light wt Kayaks are not as cheap as the heaver plastic ones! Since you said that you are going to be in mostly lakes and you are new then a rec type kayak will fit the bill. There are an overwhelming amout to choose from in this class. I suggest you narrow it down by price, and features that you want. Longer kayaks track straghter and go faster,Shorter are better for rivers and turning. Go to your local paddle shop and test them out as many as possible. Then you can make your choice. Jules

Sometimes new kayakers prefer to start with a budget boat. There are small carts available that would help you transport the boat, that fold to fit into the boat once you put in.
