Anyone

I am new to white water and this was my first year doing 'training' rapids. I was told to get a poly canoe for whitewater/tripping as they are virtually indestructible and when they get swamped they usually 'pop' back into shape. So, armed with this knowledge, I am about to buy a nova 17 ft prospector made in royalite. The person I am buying it from said it had a dent in the side (*that's why I'm getting such a good deal) and this should not affect it's sea worthyness.

How will the 'dent' effect it's tracking on flat water?

Is there a way to repair or bang out the dent?

any info would be greatly appreciated...

Regards,

Depends on the size of the dent.

Dents are usually repaired by GENTLE heating with something like a hair

Is the dent below or above the where the waterline will be when the boat is loaded? If above, I don't see how, but (and keep this in mind for the rest of my advice) I'm hardly an expert.

I've heard that gentle* heat can work. Hair dryer, sitting in the sun, etc.. Feel / look a the dent carefully. Does it look as if the plastic stretched to any thinness? If it's a good deal thinner, it'll be much weaker, though if that thin, you'd probably have noticed.
