I'm going to be buying my first canoe soon an old town pack. I want to use the canoe for solo camping trips and I would like that to involve traveling fairly large distances in the canoe.
I have read that the canoe can be used with either a double or single bladed paddle and what I would like to no is, which will be best for traveling distances, a double bladed, or single bladed paddle?
thanks

Get a cheap 2-piece aluminum kayak paddle to experiment with.
It's adjustable for length and blade angle.
If you like it, or a more expensive model, fine.
If not, you can use it as a single emergency paddle, or 2 spare canoe paddles.
Personally I found my kayak paddle got me too wet when used in a canoe but I suppose you could rig a sprayskirt.
