Hi I'm looking for courses on basic canoeing and something that will give my a certification. Anyone have any ideas on where I can go or who I should contact??

What kind of canoeing and what kind of certification?

Check the Canoe Ontario web site for sprint (olympic) and marathon canoeing, and the Ontario Rcreational Canoeing Association for links to flatwater and whitewater canoeing instruction by region.

Around Ottawa, there are several organizations that provide training in recreational canoeing. Trailhead/Blackfeather (especially for whitewater) and the Rideau Canoe Club (also sprint racing) are the big ones. As far as I know, PMH Outdoors does a range of courses in addition to longer trips. These are all good.

At the Family Canoeing Centre we specialize in introductory canoeing and personal lessons, with an additional focus on families and children.

It sounds like you need to join the YMCA Canoe Camping Club.

They have all sorts of training courses going on and if none of those fit your schedule, you just need to participate in some day trips or evening trips and you will learn a ton. Everyone is really nice and many trips are geared or suitable for beginners.
