If you are in the Toronto/Mississauga area, sheridan collage has courses see http://www.sheridanc.on.ca/printing/ptcalendar/ calendar.html. The course is through the collage (get a continuing education tax reciept) but is done in the studio at the carlisle canoe company. Roger foster is the proprietor of the Carlisle Canoe Company and a good instructor. he does cedar canvas, cedar strip and paddle carving. great courses, My class built a cedar canvas in about 2.5 weeks.

Here is the excerpt from the leasure section of the Sheridon continuing education course calander.

Canoe Building The wooden canoe is part of our country's heritage, a cultural icon with which we identify. In the wooded hills of Carlisle, just north of Burlington, Roger Foster helps canoeing enthusiasts restore and build their own canoes. Carlisle Canoe Company offers the opportunity to learn a dying art - the steaming of wood, the bending of ribs, the stretching of canvas around compound curves, and the precise fitting together of white cedar, black cherry and ash. Courses are offered only in the Fall Term. For more information, please call Roger Foster at (905) 659-0883.
