Hi, just curious what people's thoughts and response to cedar kayaks are. I'm looking to build a couple for the summer and am trying to decide between wooden or poly for some touring Thanks in advance

Hi Thanks for the info, I have purchased the book Kayak craft and started to get the materials for a resolute 16.6 I can see where the time lies in it. The building of the strongback is quite extensive, but it says that complete from start to finish is 120 hrs. I spent the weekend and have the strong back built along with half of the ribs and plates. Now that I have these and the rib holders built, the time needed to build the added things to make the kayak are actually half the battle. Today I am picking up the redwood cedar and as I now see in the book that Ash is also good, will get that as well to make a design in the deck of the kayak. I am keeping a record of my progress along the way as I am building this boat. I think being in construction was a definite bonus for me as I have the tools and needed woodcrafting savvy required for this project. Thanks again for the links to the plans that have started a 'what I hope to be' Awesome project. Dutch Hope to see ya on the water this summer
