Does anyone have any addresses of places in the south of England where I can do a canoe trip along a river for one or more days?

Helen, This newsgroup appears to be very American. You may be better off sending messages to uk.rec.boats.paddle which is UK biased.

I live in the South, Bromley to be precise and would be interested if you find any good rivers to paddle because I am not aware of any. I generally go kayaking in the sea, but again the SE coast is not that exciting.

Regards

It is a Canadian newsgroup. Ottawa is the Capitol of Canada and surrounded by some of the best canoeing imaginable.

Indeed, Ottawa is almost certainly the best medium or large city in the world for a canoeist to live.

Nice to be proud of where you live - but a bit of a sweeping statement don't ya think ??

Come for a visit and make up you own opinion. In the middle of Ottawa we have great flatwater paddling, a great whitewater play spot or two....three... or five or six anyway, even falls to run for those so inclined....

Within a couple of hours drive in any direction there's lots of great places to canoe.... in fact it's hard to drive ten minutes and not find a good spot!

and yes...... I am proud of the area as a great canoeing area.

Didn't say its not a great place! just a sweeping statement that its the best place in the world for canoeing.

What about the Alps ? New Zealand Nepal etc.

I'd love to come over for a visit - long way to paddle from the UK though!

Sorry about that, no intention to insult anyone. Seems to have got a debate going though. Based on all the good things said about it, I wish I lived in Ottawa.

Ottawa is a terrible place with nasty mosquitoes and ugly politicians. Often it's hard to tell them apart. The Alps are altogether much more civilized.

I'd stay away, if it wasn't for the fact that I was already here
