Canoe Storage Ideas

I've just moved house and have only a narrow back yard to store my canoe.

I know you're not supposed to store canoes on thier sides but I have got no alternative. Anybody have any bad experiences of doing this or any suggestions of how to minimise any ill effects?

Also what about covering it? Do I need to build some sort of shelter or will tarpaulin or some kind of bag do?

It is a Mad River Canoe made of Royalex.

Any help feedback much appreciated.

If you have a garage, you could raise your canoe to the ceiling with pulleys and ropes. That's what I did with my canoe and I can park the car right underneath it.

I fastened two upright 2X4's to an exterior wall on the least used side of my house. These are dug a couple of feet into the earth for additional support with lag bolts into the concrete foundation and through the siding into wall studs. I braced two levels of supports to these for storage of two canoes. One might make room for three or four canoes this way. I am going to raise the supports so the canoes are as high as possible below the eves for easier walking past the house.
