Hello,

Just came back from a canoe trup in algonquin park and had a horrible accident..our car flipped over and destroyed two rented canoes, luckily no one was hurt...but our canoes were destroyed.

The car insurance company refuses to pay because they state that if they were rented by somebody other than the owner of the car they don't have to pay...Is that true? Should we fight this ruling? Is there any other action we can take?

Did you not take the optional insurance on the rental canoes? That should cover it. How come your car flipped over?

Was this a Friday night about 2-3 weeks ago? Near Antrim on Hwy 17?

Check your home insurance. It probably covers this loss, although the watercraft provision may limit it. If you do no thave insurance, then you are about to spend the premiums you have saved.

Nope..no insurance was offered by the Rental place....strange but true...

The car flipped because my Ex-friend was driving, in my opinion, absent-mindedly and had no respect for his friends lives.. His daddy is gonna pay for his crashed car and his part of the canoe cost..sadly the rest of us don't have parents who support mistakes.

Hi,

How unfortunate ... and ... how fortunate.

As for the insurance companies ... I am no privy to the 'letter of the law' or the 'small print' in the policy .... but my experiences with insurance companies is always ugly. They talk a great story of how 'helpful' they are and then try to screw you out of the money owed when a claim is made or raise your rates or give some candy ass excuse that the 'government' change the laws. More crap ... the insurance lobby in Ontario is the biggest lobby group going. They get the politicians to change the law in the first place then blame it on the government and we still are out of pocket.

Go after them six ways to Sunday until you get compensation ... I do ... and the same with all levels of government. This is one Canadian who is fed up with being 'nice' ... nicely screwed.
