Anyone use either the Frontier or the inflatable rack from Canadian Tire to cartop a canoe or kayak?
I'd appreciate advice as to whether or not they function well.

Hi John: I have a set of CTC Frontier racks on my 95 Corolla. They work well and I use them all summer to carry a 12' plastic kayak or a 17' Lund Aluminum Canoe that weighs 82 lbs. They work well and I use them all summer to carry a 12' plastic kayak or a 17' Lund Aluminum Canoe that weighs 82 lbs. No problems they are pretty solid. They whistled a bit in the wind but I defeated this by wrapping them in inexpensive pipe insulation which also help[s to cushion the boat and to add friction. I have not yet done it but I have considered drilling holes in them to install eye bolts as tie dowm points. They appear to be solid enough for this. I believe that they have after market accessories for bicycles etc. All in all no regrets. Happy Paddlin'

Thanks, John.
I was worried about the whistling from experience with racks of this type.
Which parts do you wrap? Is the pipe insulation the black foam type for water pipes that comes split?
Does your Corolla have gutters?
I'm driving a Windstar without gutters and wonder if that's a problem.

The Crossbar.I used the pipe inssulation and duct tape. Red Green would be proud. You could ues the color coordinated variety should Martha Sstewart be in your circle of friends.
No, but the clamps hold firmly. Frontier makes several models depending on the make and model of car.
It shouldn't be but as above make sure you get the right model for your van.
