Hi, I hope you can see this, this is my first time posting!

I am pretty sure I met the two of you coming out of the Madawaska river a few weeks ago, you might remember me, I was with my husband with a powerboat and we talked about fishing for a minute? Well I was searching for some information about paddling and I stumbled on the gokayaking website and imagine my surprise when I saw your pictures and kayaks! I started reading and couldn't stop, you seem to have an awful lot of fun, more than I have in the powerboat. I followed your link over to the newsgroup and have been having a laugh but disappointed there's not much recent talk about trips!

Anyway we also have a canoe and I am trying to get Bruce out with me, and I was wondering what you thought about a trip for us that wouldn't be too demanding. I know not to go on the South Nation (haha) and we are a bit southwest of Ottawa so I was wondering about the Clyde river route you guys took last year. Is it a pretty safe one, I saw the pictures where there seemed to be some rapids, I don't think we want to be doing that. You also went from the beach in Almonte would that be better? any thoughts appreciated.

Bye,

I read you loud and clear. Always good to meet another night owl.

Sure, at the boat launch. You were lamenting your husband's love of motors, right?

Yes, well, hopefully that will change soon, it's hard to judge a newsgroup by a short time frame. It's been nothing but pleasant for as long as I can remember. The last few weeks are a definite exception.

The rapids on the Clyde route are at the upstream end, so you don't need to get involved with them. You approach them from downstream (if you want to) as they are quite nice to look at, and then just turn around. We paddled right up to the base of them, the water was quite shallow. The only thing about that nice little trip you might find scary is the noises from the shooting range that is not far from the launch area!

The Almonte-Appleton trip is a good one (a fair distance, however, as a return trip) but I remember it as not all that interesting. There's a few more twists and turns to the Clyde route, and it's a more reasonable distance if you haven't been out for a while.

If you do go there, watch out for the interesting heron-like bird that William Watt as well as Julie and myself have seen there.

There's a nice little chocolate store with cheap ice cream cones too...

Oh, if Perth is not too far for you, you can't go wrong with the Tay River. A great marsh there for poking around with a canoe and watching all the herons and beavers.

Let me know what you decide!

Cheers,

Keenan

You are right, I didn't realize the time.

Yes good memory.

I am glad to hear that.

You guys wrote about that, so I was prepared. If we go there, I plan to slink down as we pass it :-D

Will do.

That's all I need.

I will read up on that. Thanks.

OK, bye!
