A great tip by the Canadian ckayaker for those that get irritated when their deckline lay flatten deck making it almost impossible to get the blade under, instead of using plastic beads or traditional carved bone or antler rings , Michael solves the problem with knots only.
The knot I use is simple to tie. Make a small loop in the line at the point you want the knot. A few centimeters from the curve of the loop, give the cord a few turns around the loop and then thread the bitter end through the loop. Pull tight and you’ve got yourself knotty bit! Repeat as needed.
I’ve seen this video on SimonWills.net and just when I thought the Alaska route was a long one I realize that there is always something more.
Can you imagine a ten weeks kayaking journey? The route is really nice and it is probably an experience of a lifetime so I have a lot to dream about, going on long kayaking journeys even if I’ll probably won’t aim at such extremes.
Anyway another long kayaking trip is finished as Simon completed his journey of mapping the Scottish Sea Kayak Trail. Congratulation on the upcoming publication of the book Simon.
I’ve read here about what supposed to be a crazy race down the Yukon river in Alaska several days and much more experience than I have but I suppose it is an experience that won’t be forgotten easily.
You can read about the race here it is planned for July 2009 it is held by a different company than the one that arranges the Yukon River Search. I guess the demand is enough for two separate races.
Anyway I’ve never been to a serious race before and maybe in few years I’ll decide to really challenge myself this way.
The 23 years old kayaker from Tennessee was arrested after the police found 50 grams of marijuana bud, most of which was stashed in the kayak that was strapped to the top of the car. If not for the dos trying to jump on top of the car he might have been safe.
On a more personal note
I’ve been with the kayak and a couple of friends on a two days of sea kayaking, something that I wouldn’t try alone.
I think that I getting more practice and more confidence so maybe in few months I’ll be much more independent even at sea.
The skills are slightly different than the ones I’ve learned on the rivers but with practice and good guidance I’m getting there.
