I'm brand new to kayaking and I'm interested in making a purchase. What would be anyone's top three sea kayaks under $1,500?

best for intermediate for me would be a wilderness systems Tempest. You will paddle it even after you become advanced because of your budget you will have to go with a rotomold version.
Paddlin' a P&H Quest LV or a Current Designs Kestrel 120 TCS all over the Garden State!!
