recently purchased a canoe at an estate sale. The ID plate says it was made by Appleby Mfg Co, Lebanon MO. Model 17C.

I found out from talking with the relatives of the original owner, that this canoe was purchased new in the mid to late 70's. And has hung unused in a storage garage for the last 20 years. It is in great shape with the exception of the vinyl covered wood seats.

My question is, has anyone heard of this brand? I can find little to nothing on the web about it. Any info is appreciated.

Hi, Is the canoe, Aluminum, Wood, lastic, Fibreglas? This would help, to know. If it is wood, you may goto www.Wcha.org and ask, in their Forum.

Or you can research the Search Engines, like www.google.com

I hope this is of help,

Hi there; What type of canoe is it? Fiberglass? Wood-canvas? Thanks and regards Harold Hodder

This is an aluminum canoe. I have tried searching through google, but have not been able to find much info. The only things I can assume are that this company no longer exists, they did not make very many canoes, and that not many of them have survived. Of course, it could be that the company name has changed, because there are other brands of canoes made in Lebanon MO.

I also own an Appleby 17C. I'm not the original owner so I don't know the exact year of its manufacture. Mid 1970s sounds about right. Mine was "rode hard" my the previous owner and has a few good scrapes and dings to show for it.

In the mid 1980s I had an Old Town sail kit fitted to it, but it sat for 20 years seldom used.

This summer I finally started paddling, sailing, and camping with it at every opportunity. It's a real joy and extremely versatile.

I know little about Appleby, but if you'll go here:
http://www.ruralmissouri.org/02pages/Mar02boats.html

you can get a feel for them. Sadly they're no longer in business.

Attached (hopefully) is the Appleby tied up at a state park campsite with the Old Town sail kit deployed.
