I have been contemplating getting a small 2 stroke for my canoe. Its a 17' fiberglass prospector style. Any comments on those of you who use a motor from time to time? Max HP, considerations etc. The canoe does not have a mount, but I see alot available on the net.

Ideally you'll have a mount, but all you really need is something like a flatish piece of wood on each side of the canoe and you can screw the motor right on to that. Check it fairly often to make sure it's staying tight. You'll want it as near the bow as possible. It really does work better pulling the canoe than pushing it, though my steering mechanism dictated using it on the back end most of the time. I'd think about 3 hp would be max and you'd not want to run it full at that often. Too much power, too much speed.
