I will be picking up a 12'11' kayak. This is my first kayak and I have a small car. Will it be ok to just tie it down on the top of my small car? I figured if I just tie the crap out of it, it will be ok. How many of you have small cars and carry kayaks on top with out at rack?

You'll need front and back tie downs, as well as tying it across.
A crosswind could blow it off your car otherwise.
